Presto , pesto!

Did you know that Pesto is a term that generically refers to greens that get crushed via pounding, does anything sound better than some fresh basil pesto? This is the month where you can start to harvest those particular greens!

But be careful because April is also the month of the slug! Any gardener is familiar with this slimy pest, with our wet climate we create the perfect habitat for these little pests. But have no fear, in our gardening aisle we have all the products you need to protect your loved greenery! Look for more advice in Tilth Alliance’s “Maritime Northwest Garden Guide” which is also available at your local City People’s.

Perhaps you started with some seed starts in the last month; by the mid month we should be done with our cold weather and over night frosts. That means you can start to transition your seedling babies to the outside world but you want to be careful not to shock them, as I was recently reminded, plants evolved without the need of legs and feet and therefore if we take them from a cozy inside, warm, protected from the harshness of air and rays of sunlight environment and put them outside with no warning or protection they are likely to get shocked. Plants are living things too and because they cannot verbally tell us what they need we have to take extra special care to protect them!

Come visit us this month as we give our Nursery a little extra love and care and refresh its look while continuing to get in new plants every week to help provide your garden with all the color and love you desire!
