Dealing with Bugs and Diseases in the Backyard Garden

Saturday, April 20th, 11 am – noon
Garden pests come in many forms: from the crawling kinds to spores carried on the wind or molds that travel through the soil. Landscaper Richard Greenberg will give you a run down of the pests out there and how to prevent them or, if they have already arrived, how to get rid of them!

Natural Lawn Care and Alternatives to Lawns

Sunday, June 9th, 11 am – noon
Natural Lawns and Alternatives to Lawns
Learn some basic steps to caring for a lawn naturally and also what your options are if a traditional lawn does not fit your personality or your site conditions. John Coghlan from HomeGrown Organics (a permaculture Landscaping company) will give you tips for a healthy grass lawn, and he will evaluate the many alternatives (clover meadows, low growing grasses, hardscaping with recycled material, native plantings, clumping grasses). Get ideas on how to go about picking which one will be right for you.

Saturday, June 15th, 11 am – noon
Learn about great plant combinations that work well together in a variety of conditions all summer. Garden Coach and designer Susan Papanikolas will show off some of her favorite summer plants and talk about how she uses them in garden designs.
