City People’s Garden Store offers free workshops for the community throughout the year. Topics range from edible gardening to pruning to designing holiday containers. Workshops are held in the Garden Store.

Planting Rain Gardens For Success

Thursday, September 19th, 2 pm – 4 pm
Experts from Seattle’s Green Infrastructure Partnership (GrIP) will be meeting at the store for an in depth exploration of Rain Garden plants. Laura Matter of the Garden Hotline at Tilth Alliance and Jake Harris of Stone Soup Gardens will lead the discussion which will highlight the dos and don’ts of planting rain gardens for stormwater management, wildlife habitat, food production and beauty.

Houseplants 102

Saturday, September 21st, 11 am – noon
If you’ve successfully raised a few houseplants and are ready to take your plant parenting to the next level, this class is for you! We will focus on plant identification and taxonomy, customizing your soil and fertilizer, and the most common propagation techniques.

Part 1 of a 2 part class. Jake Harris of Stone Soup Gardens will introduce you to growing your own mushrooms.

Foraging Edible Fungi (Mushrooms Part 2)

Everlasting Arrangements from the Garden

Saturday, October 19th, 11 am – noon
Interested in adorning your home for the autumn and winter? Look no further than the seedpods and turning leaves in the garden. Join Agnes P. Cwalina of Flowers Sow Urban as she demonstrates the mechanics of using botanical material for an indoor or outdoor everlasting arrangement. The demo will cover dried vased arrangements, table runners, and wreaths.

Putting the Garden to Bed

Saturday, October 26th, 11 am – noon
City People’s Garden Store co-owner Jose Gonzales will follow in Richard Greenberg’s footsteps and lead this annual class on what to do at the end of the growing season to help your garden through the winter months. You’ll learn what to cut back, what to leave alone, how why and where to apply compost and mulch, and what winter vegetables you can sow for spring harvest.

Terrarium Techniques

Saturday, November 2nd, 11 am – noon
In this class our resident terrarium creator, Connor Farrell, will discuss and demonstrate how to put together a charming plant Terrarium. He will go over container requirements, soils and amendments needed, plants that can be put together, and how to design for effect and longevity. Connor will be on hand after the demo to help class participants choose plants for their own creation at home.
