City People’s Garden Store offers free workshops for the community throughout the year. Topics range from edible gardening to pruning to designing holiday containers. Workshops are held in the Garden Store.

Saturday, August 17th, 11 am – noon
Interested in preserving your favorite tastes and scents from the garden? Agnes P. Cwalina of Flowers Sow Urban will discuss which seeds are worth saving, plus timing, methods of harvesting, cleaning, and storage. Bring your extra seed and envelopes for swapping with other attendees.
Saturday, September 7th, 11 am – noon
As a gardener you probably have a luscious array of foliage, textures, and colors, at your fingertips! Have fun cutting from the garden to create an arrangement for inside! Join Agnes P. Cwalina of Flowers Sow Urban as she nudges you to clip and mix and match. She will demonstrate step by step how to create a vased arrangement with ingredients from your own backyard.
Sunday, September 15th, 11 am – noon
Learn how to use great evergreen anchors and interchangeable supporting plants in an Autumn container to create displays that last through the winter and can be refreshed easily in spring. Garden Coach, Plant Enthusiast, and Designer Susan Papanikolas will discuss plant combinations and variations as she demonstrates planting up a pot. She will show you some of her favorite plants to use during the colder seasons, and the roles they can play in container design, and she will have some growing tips to help your plant display thrive.
Saturday, September 21st, 11 am – noon
If you’ve successfully raised a few houseplants and are ready to take your plant parenting to the next level, this class is for you! We will focus on plant identification and taxonomy, customizing your soil and fertilizer, and the most common propagation techniques.
Saturday, October 12th, Noon – 2 pm
Learn about applying for a rebate from Seattle Public Utilities and King County for up to 100 percent of the cost of your rain garden or cistern. This is an opportunity to meet a collection of RainWise contractors and learn what will work for you.
Saturday, November 2nd, 11 am – noon
In this class our resident terrarium creator, Connor Farrell, will discuss and demonstrate how to put together a charming plant Terrarium. He will go over container requirements, soils and amendments needed, plants that can be put together, and how to design for effect and longevity. Connor will be on hand after the demo to help class participants choose plants for their own creation at home.
